A diaper bag is one of the most important accessories for parents. Whilst design and color can be a personal choice, its comfort, features and practicality are things all parents are looking for. A diaper bag also has a sort of magical quality, being able to hold far more than looks possible!

The Skip Hop Dash from Skip Hop is one of the best selling diaper bags, and features a modern design and style that hides its real purpose. The Skip Hop Dash resembles a modern messenger bag, such as those from Crumpler. It is refreshing to see products that allow parents to continue to buy and wear fashionable items, knowing that having a child is not the end of being able to look and feel great.

The Skip Hop Dash is a traditional shoulder diaper bag made from a durable canvas. There are a total of 10 internal pockets with additional outside pockets that can hold things that you need quick and easy access to. For storing baby bottles, there are 2 interior pockets and 2 large outside pockets. The outside pockets are large enough that they can hold the larger style of baby bottles, such as the taller Avent bottles. A key ring and cell phone holder are also included on the inside. The internal compartments are large enough to store enough items for a day trip, but not too large that it becomes too cumbersome to carry.

I was very impressed with how comfortable and practical the Skip Hop Dash is. Many diaper bags have pockets that are either too small or are hard to access, especially when trying to access pockets whilst carrying the bag. The pockets in the Skip Hop Dash though are arranged for easy access even when the bag is being worn. It is possible to store a lot of the bags contents in the pockets alone, a big plus over some bags where everything seems to be just thrown into the middle, making it hard to find what you are looking for. This allows the main compartment of the bag to hold larger items such as spare clothing and wraps.
A shoulder bag may not be practical for all parents though. If heavily loaded it may not be as comfortable as wearing a backpack. However, the shoulder strap is one of the most comfortable we have used, and can be worn for extended periods. One advantage of a shoulder bag is that it can easily be opened and the contents removed whilst it is still worn, handy in many situations. Stroller straps are included that allow the bag to be attached to the back of most strollers. However, as noted in our review of the Maclaren Techno XT and Maclaren Universal Organiser, a stroller with too much weight on the back can easily tip backwards. A zippered internal compartment is provided that can store personal items away from other potentially wet contents. A matching change pad is also included.
